I've heard that sometimes as part of a deceased person's will, certain family members will be left a specific nominal amount like a penny or £1 purely so that the person cannot then submit a legal challenge disputing the will suggesting that they must have been forgotten.
Nightmare mode when you get called up to attend the will reading of your rich relative who has carked it, thinking you're in for a big windfall then the stuffy solicitor reads out that you've been willed 1 pound, in front of all the other family members, bringing you back down to earth. Off you fuck back home on the bus with your cheque for a pound, knowing this rich bastard has mugged you off even in death.
