There's a lot of concern today about gambling addicts, but I would like to offer an alternative perspective. Economists consider the spending of money to be the most clear of all signals. To spend one's money is to assert that the opportunity cost of every other thing that money could have been spent on was inferior to the chosen good or service. But gambling addicts let go of all their money for literally nothing at all. All the prostitutes, all the booze, all the rich food of the world mean nothing to them. They understand money as only a weight in their pockets to be lifted. Truly they are the only people on earth who understand Sunyata, the uselessness and emptiness of all things!
