I remember hikki threads being killed off, they were exceedingly dogshit quality-wise back then but nowadays they'd probably fit right now. Hell you can't get much worse than /djt/ or the other large thread which you can't talk bad about.
The rest i'm pretty sure was just a lack of interest or people moving on. Hell we used to have MMO and fucking world of tanks threads and those simply faded away as people got bored.
