It's 100% autism. Well, that, and people growing up in families where their fathers were not able to afford multiple rifles, so they get one gun in a caliber that'll "take care of everything!" at any range you can physically see in PA without your target becoming obstructed by trees, and call it done.
I guess that last part sort of makes sense, I can't think of anything in Pennsylvania that a 30-06 wouldn't drop, but I still think it's mainly autism.
I say this knowing full well that my own fucking father has a 760, and my cousin has one he inherited from my uncle.
