Dumb question: why fire at night?
I mean, it's not 1940 anymore, it's not like radars won't pick them up. if anything, that giant light flare in the sky is impossible to miss compared to daytime.
The only real reason I can see is to make the population alert at night, alongside the defending army, but it's not like night shifts aren't a thing anyway.
