>Western behavior or trying to look away and ignore realty
That's been a bit schizophrenic.
Truth is the first casualty of war, unless that's innocence, it depends. They're one and two though.
The escalation ratchet requires pushing sometimes and pulling sometimes to keep the indicator moving upwards at a controllable pace.
So you're not wrong that the west sometimes downplays Russian aggression but I don't think that was one of them, the west didn't turn around and say that Ukraine fucked up, they said that the impact was a Ukrainian air defence missile fired at an incoming Russian target and the blame for the impact ultimately lay with Russia.
That's not downplaying a Russian impact, it's saying that you don't blame Ukraine for a Ukrainian impact and since it was a direct result of defending against Russian aggression, you still blame Russia for it.

>because the RU soldiers got butthurt about the name?
I'd expect RU soldiers to be supporters, Putin didn't kill off Navalny because he was unpopular and hated by Russians, it was the opposite. He was a credible threat (also a zigger but that's irrelevant to his life expectancy under Putin).
