Totally forgot about those lines littering the fields. I'd imagine snagging a few hundred of these both while landing and taking off could trap it like a spiderweb. Wonder how bad that particular field is. Pic related is from Kursk or Sumy iirc, could be wrong though.

Also, if they had troops in the area, they could've had them scout the location using drones, suggest the best azimuth, mark the lz etc.
Alas, fixed wing transports are hardly getting any use these days. Even helicopters, that fly low and seldom approach the frontline closer than the reach of Manpads, aren't seen often anymore. I think most Ka-52s/Mi-28s are used for shooting down fixed wing drones in the rear these days.
