They do have forced conscription, but not in the sense that they are constantly abducting randoms and shoving them to the front.
I wasn't here for the videos but I guess those were out of context arrests of draft evaders or cherrypicked cases of abuse.

Sucks to be a Ukranian but this way the burden is shared equally by everyone which helps to keep morale from degrading.
