Not OP but i was seriously fucked up by religion.
Religion (or how we think of it in the west, Judeo Christianity) has a very insidious way of teaching learned helplessness. If something goes wrong it's just a test, or God's plan. If something goes right? It's all glory and praise be to God. It instills weakness and passivity, and that's extremely toxic to already marginalized individuals (Trans people, racial minorities, etc). It also provides answers without real effort (this is right because God said so) and dogma without discovery. It's lazy thinking and unproductive. As for personal distaste, I was depressed, alone, and addicted to alcohol because of the former two for the majority of my adult life only to be gaslit that God would "save me" or "send someone". It wasn't until i decided to save myself that anything changed.
