What if I keep it at one flashback per chapter? They're not long enough nor sufficiently chronologically tied to serve as a standalone chapter. I like the idea of using "triggers" for flashbacks to refer to a past situation and how that changed in the present. For example, smoothly driving right now while having a recollection of an accident, and how the character improved (or worsened?) since then.
