I'm just glad I enjoyed it in spite of these perceived flaws.
People complain about it being derivative or cliche, and I just can't bring myself to care one way or the other. I love wizards. I love chosen one tropes. I love farmboys that come from nothing with an eye on adventure. I love kings, queens, and princesses. Simple as.
You can take the same basis, with the same roles, and create a compelling and endearing story. By virtue of it being done by different authors with different ideas and aims, said stories can be dear to someone for different reasons. And there's space for both of them.
