5. Eastern slopper talking about Western works not being a “satisfying dish” presumably because too much focus on ‘slave morality’ or modern politics etc
I think there’s a danger here of getting caught in a bubble because you read a few of the popular titles and find these things and assume the whole scene is poisoned… however it’s not 2015 anymore. English novels are being written by people all over the world and it’s growing every year so the thought there isn’t a whole list of good stuff out there for someone into shit like RI, Er Gen, I Shall be Everlasting, Mirror Legacy, RotC etc is just weird to me. I mean even stuff like Primal Hunter, Defiance of the Fall and Hell Difficulty Tutorial would all qualify as power fantasies without the nonsense attached. For my money DotC is damn fun too. And for Western Cultivation there’s Ave Xia Remy Y, Sky Pride, Cultivation Nerd and Virtuous Sons which isn’t a bad little list at all. You may need to be more open minded but Memories of the Fall is cool once it gets going. I’ve heard good things about The Last Ship in Suzhou and possibly Depthless Hunger which I haven’t read yet.
The Idle System, Calculating Cultivation and Systemics Lands are three titles which kind of have that Eastern mentality of prioritizing benefits and being ruthless.
For more creative and brutal Western shit you could try Jester of Apocalypse, 1% Lifesteal, Godclads, Gilgamesh or anything by DWinchester.
There’s also one called A Gamer’s Guide to Beating the Tutorial which puts a more experimental twist on that Korean subgenre where instead of an aura farming demigod you get a neurodivergent Mc who goes nuts and turns into a cryptid boogie man tier creature that scares the shit out of everyone lol. But now I’m just rambling because I wanted to mention it since I rarely talk in these threads…
