It's possible that those readers have moved on or been swamped by new arrivals. It used to be that many of the most popular works were harem. Stories like Change: New World, Arcane Emperor, Savage Divinity, Everybody Loves Large Chests (might not count though), The Storm King. Some newer ones have had success over time too like Sexy Steampunk Babes.

But you might be onto something. RR might have lost a lot of harem readers after they purged stories many years ago. They probably moved on to other places like Scribblehub, Webnovel, and Kindle.

It used to be in a lot of the most popular RR novels. Arcane Emperor and ELLC were on top of the board for years.
Also, you shouldn't try to chase the general audience out of the gate. You want to have some kind of niche that people come back to you for, but harem probably isn't that these days.
Sexy sexy babes and sexy steampunk babes absolutely dominated HFY when they were releasing though.

It's not a corpo thing. The fact of the matter is that you suck. When you try to enter an established niche you have to compete against established works, whereas with a new trend you can be there as the niche starts rising. That's why whenever a new thought to be popular game releases you have a ton of youtubers jump onto it.
