Don’t get me wrong, I’m beyond suspicious of ChatGPT and believe nothing it says. Personally, I view it simply as a tool, how the person uses the tool is what matters. For me, I use it to quickly put my words in order. I’m never asking Chat about any of the things I write, I don’t sit and discuss my thoughts and say, “What do you think about this?” I literally just open a Word document and start going at it non-stop. Then, when I’m done, I copy and paste the entire thing into Chat and say, “Make this readable, correct the spelling, punctuation, and flow.” Then it spits out its corrected version, and I proofread to make sure it’s still saying what I wanted it to say, many times it doesn’t, I have to correct it, make it change stuff back, or use a different word because what it wrote was not what I meant. My brain moves in a non-linear way, so when I try to describe what I’m seeing in my head, aka write down my thoughts, it comes out in all the wrong order. I can fix it for sure without Chat, but it takes me such a long time to sit down and read my own writing, then spend 20 minutes figuring out how to describe a basic 5-second idea in the correct order.
Chat can do it instantly. That being said, I will now tell it to also do not add, delete, or change any words unless it is absolutely necessary for comprehension. That way it doesn’t sound so AI-ishly gay.
