I am grateful that I had a period where I seriously looked into Orthodoxy, it led me to totally new perspectives on Christianity/Christendom as a whole. Granted after the honeymoon phase I quickly saw it was plagued by many of the same issues as the Roman church, as you said, and that if we really want to fix the Church (and society as a whole) we cannot run into escapist fantasies.

isn't that half the reason the protestants are so fractured? While we should engage with scripture deeply, to try and reinvent the theologically wheel is absurd. All one does is realize why the various councils condemned many heresies.
