I guess there's a correspondence to his view and those the incels, insofar as the incels are correct that one's fate is pretty much determined at one's birth--but that's not mainly a matter of looks. His pessimism can easily can become optimism, since the negative character of pleasure which he explicates can be conceived as the positive character of pain.
