It's because when "people" who read web novels see a female main character, they (rightfully) assume it's a shoujo and the web novel will definitely be shit. If it's a genderbender they can assume that it's not a shoujo and the web novel won't necessarily be garbage. So, if you want to write a female character and still have your web novel be popular, you have to write a genderbender, even if you don't heavily lean on genderbender tropes.

I would have never picked this up if it wasn't a genderbender but you can basically ignore the genderbender aspect and pretend she was a woman on Earth too.
