I agree that 50 episodes always feels too long. That does not forgive shows nowadays being only 12 episodes and trying to tell a massive story. I want to see my characters interact with the world and other characters, not see them speedrun through the story and be forgotten in the rush. Shows that got cancelled mid run like the original Gundam or Macross I find to be the perfect length. 30-40 episodes seems like the sweetspot to tell a full story without going overboard.
