That's what I like about a lot of Tomino's direction though. It's very fast and it doesn't leave a lot of fat on the table for action. Also the scene is pretty clearly Amuro faking out Gyunei with his gear being detached. Gyunei is out of range and couldn't see where Amuro darted off from. If the scene were to slow down to a halt to explain Amuro's tactics it loses the sudden impact and killing of Gyunei.
