I think you are overlooking something here. Andy was piloting Gaia Gundam, and he was also struggling to hit the Zakus and Goufs. Andy killed one unit, but could only manage he to get glancing hits most of the time. Like shooting the head or arm. Several of the enemy even completely dodged Andy's attacks, and he would curse in his cockpit. Remember Gaia Gundam is much newer than Strike Gundam. So if Andy is struggling, then so was Kira in Strike Gundam.
