I wonder if he's a similar case to Banjo where he was initially intended to have a sword as his main weapon (and indeed he does) but the character has a preference for using a gun as his weapon and so later down the line Zeztz becomes more of a gun Rider and gets a new gun weapon that doubles as his upgrade.
