>honestly what are even the main gripes about IBO
Too much screentime filled with useless talking that masquErades as 'character development' (there isn't any - it's all empty talk about nothing by nobodies whose names I don't even remember), especially in S1. Some subplots feel redundant and contribute nothing (the space harem, the space mafia). Hush's character was a poor attempt at ... I don't even know what? A Saji Crossroad type of figure? A new Kamille? The past between Mika and Orga is hinted as this big, life-changing event/period that would explain why their relationship in the present is the way it is, but it turns out to be a nothingburger and is reduced to a minute of footage (instead of devoting at least half an episode to their EDGY BLOOD AND SWEAT BONDING that would preoccupy the minds of fujo fanfic writers for a decade at least, like a proper anime drama would). Kudelia is reduced to a tertiary character in S2 (why just not write her off completely if you wanted to make Orga go full retard with no checks?). S2 kept on introducing new characters while neglecting the existing ones, so in the end most of them came off as shallow and wastes of space.
