So, what was the season about, and how does it fit into the whole-show narrative as of its release?
First, a detour.
The Cutie Map: All m6 and glimmer present. A slight focus towards FS.
Castle Sweet Castle: All m6 present. While twilight is the focus of the problem, every other main character is the one acting.
Bloom & Gloom: AB is the main character, with luna supporting. TS appears as a figment
Tanks for the Memories: RD as main character. Other m6 appear briefly, until end.
Appleoosa's Most Wanted: CMC as main characters. Aj minor.
Make New Friends but Keep Discord: Discord main. FS supporting. Twilight occasionally nagging because she's working as the organizer for this gala.
The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone: Pinkie + RD main. Gilda supporting. Show lampshades Twilight's desire to be included.
Slice of Life: No real main. Whole town other than m6 as supporting. m6 locked outside by responsibility, and an idiot.
Princess Spike: Spike main. Twilight locked in a tower. Cadence supporting.
Party Pooped: Pinkie main. m5 supporting but not really useful.
Amending Fences: Twilight and MD main. Old friends supporting. Pinkie minor.

So, while the show makes sure to provide multiple situations where twilight is being actively sidelined, and mention she's being sidelined, and provide metaphors of her being sidelined, she's actually in damn near every episode as an important component of the plot. Even her actual absence is carefully constructed to be important to the plot. She has 3 mid-season episodes which focus on her primarily as the main character, or 4 if you count Castle Sweet Castle, which doesn't sound like much, until you notice exactly how often the m6 are used as very involved supporting characters, and how often twilight gets attention in episodes which aren't about her.
