you really do have to practice at 100% volume to not sound like shit at 100% volume. i do it with a very long guitar cable, and standing outside the house in the back yard, and slowly getting closer to the 300 watts of tube power, one dozen six L six tube. i have to make adjustments by turning the guitar off and walking in and then walking out again before turning it up.
it's just a different creature to control a legit 100 watt tube amp that is full on rocking. the thing is a safety hazard first of all and just because it sounds right with the master at 10% doesn't mean it'll sound like 'that but louder' at 100%, so you kind of have to dial it in at dangerous volumes, and then just live with it at lower volumes as best you can.
but once you get the hang of it there's literally no feeling in the world like hundreds of watts of overdriven tube and eight speakers that feel like an earthquake under your feet. there's a visceral painful detail when you're drowning in volume.
