The axle spins because the block is cooked but you might be able to wedge something in between the axle and block to force it stationary while you break the nut loose. Wedge something between the upper left (flathead/drift/chisel/etc) edge of the axle and the block and lower right edge between the block and axle. Push in and even out at the same time tightly while someone breaks the nut loose. Recruit a friend to hit the nut while you and maybe even another gorilla wedge into those corners with something. The block is already cooked so who cares if you have to gouge into it to get a good purchase
