There's always something you can do when you are in control of your own destiny. When/if you see a potential hazard ahead you slow down and be prepared to take avoiding action. Don't ride in cager blind spots. Assume every car is trying to kill you and avoid them. Filter to the front of stopped traffic and stay ahead and clear of them when the light goes green. They can't kill you if they can't catch you.

I ride for 8-10 hours a day doing around 60,000km per year and I'm still alive because I control my own destiny and wont' let any cager scum get close to me and my bike.
