The main concern is overpopulation of dogs; that's why all rescues and veterinarians encourage neutering and spaying: to control overpopulation. Dog rescues are mostly full and still in the US about a thousand dogs are euthanized daily for being homeless and not adopted on time.
But I do sympathize with wanting to leave your boy intact. I am a total dog lover, so I can see both sides.
Maybe keep him intact and just make sure he doesn't sire offspring and further the dog overpopulation problem.
