well yeah, that is why you do it so they keep that puppy spirit.
on the other hand, with horses you specifically do it to supress their "awakening" and keep them calm and docile. same with cattle. you would do it to cows as well, if it didn't obviously make them unable to produce milk and calves. but the psychological effect would be perfect
