In a free market:
>be hypothetical person with money
>notice people on the street
>rent prices are too high for poors to afford
>realize I could undercut market rate by 10% and still profit
>build apartment and undercut rent prices
>other landlords have to cut prices to compete
>suddenly more housing and lower rent for poors because I made a profit
vs in a rent controlled one:
>be hypothetical person with money
>notice people on the street
>rent prices are super low due to rent control
>cost to build/buy an apartment is way higher than rent
>invest my money in stock market instead
>housing crisis is just as bad as before
Landlords aren't some cartoonishly evil force, just someone with a business. With rent control the business no longer makes sense and exacerbates housing issues
