I recommend people put the effort into investing. It's really just another form of "temporary learning for long-term gain", except you do your own research on your own time instead of according to a lesson plan at school/work. Times can be awful but a lot of people can set themselves up better in the long-run if they stop blowing money on stuff that only brings them a bit of joy, but only lasts a few minutes or worse gets thrown in a backlog and not really touched for years.
