People don't care. As long as their personal lives are relatively ok, people will take a lot of shit. It takes a lot for people to revolt. They're just going to keep boiling the frog until life is even more unbearable and proteste mean nothing really. People cannot unite and organize around a common cause, that's why there is no true democracy, no true government of the majority. It's the iron law of organizations (society in this case) by Robert Michels: every organization leads to oligarchy.
