Aikido is pretty fun and not intensive at all. I tried it once for a few weeks and there were lots of women and old people. The moves are probably only effective against those people as well. You basically have to cooperate with your "opponent". Someone with equal strength could probably just resist your pulls and pushes. I could see it working on a drunk who tries to grab you by the throat/collar or something, and if it works it would look pretty cool.
