You get a quick path to citizenship through the military if you either (a) serve 12 months or (b) serve 1 day in active combat
He got shot and discharged too quickly for (a)
The US never declared the Panama conflict as "active combat" so he was fucked out of (b)
He could have applied in the time after his discharge, but he was apparently having mental problems from PTSD and got into drug trouble, pushing him further from citizenship.
In all seriousness, I do a bit of trolling with this post, but this is a shitty situation all around.
Dude honestly tried to make the country better and now he's headed back to a country he doesn't know, just because he got fucked by a drug addiction and Trump policies.
