It's not capitalism doing it bro. There is nothing wrong with free markets and open trade. We've been doing capitalism before we even had a name for it. It's just a concept where we imagine how things work based on free markets and open trade. No part of capitalism itself is forcing us to choose infinite expansion.
But what is forcing us to choose infinite expansion are the corrupt people driving the economy through "democracy" to make profit for themselves and their buddies. What you're looking at is late stage democracy, the stage of democracy where the people in charge are completely corrupt and have decided that there must be a law for everything, everything must be regulated and taxed, and the government must plan the economy. It's a form of crypto-communism.
Being the world reserve currency and addicted to printing, the petrodollar, our government using the 3rd world as slaves, offloading our manufacturing to the 3rd world. That's all democracy because we're choosing to make these things happen. None of these things are some horrific side effect of free markets and open trade. We chose them, because we're a "democracy"
