Just for more information about the history of Dobermanns, during World War II, in the US military, about 3/4 of war dogs were Dobermanns and about 1/4 were German Shepherds.
Dobermanns made excellent war dogs in the Pacific Theater due to their short fur, which made them better adapted to the hot weather of places like Guam and other Pacific islands that were part of the conflict.
Eventually, German Shepherds overtook Dobermanns as preferred military dogs largely because German Shepherds, having a double coat and longer hair, have much better cold weather tolerance.
