This is actually patently false. The iron in north Europe was further down into the earth’s crust and harder to get to without more advanced technology. Remember Scandinavia is basically all mountians. In fact it’s theorized that the germanic and norse expansion was kind of a gold rush but for roman weapons, armor and metals. Alot of the roman treaties with germanics stipulated weapons specifically and this is likely why Rome and the germanics found it easy to create contracts for border militias against other germanics.
