That's a funny meme - yes, in a prototype or pilot build, tolerances are changed on the fly and not orderly. Production is another story, In one of my companies I worked at, a top 2 Oil Field Services Company, we designed and purchsed $40k complex machined parts that went into Million-dollar Measurement / Logging While Drilling Tools. We inspected parts with hundreds of features (Drilled & Tapped Holes, Pockets, Bosses, etc). We had a Million Dollar Zeiss Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) to inspect each feature during Receiving Inspection. You part is bad, send it back. Another bad Part? You may loose 3 Million in annual spend we have using your shop. Quality Matters...
