Exactly. Nobody wants to fight for a society that considers them replaceable. If the society views me as replaceable then I'm going to view the society as replaceable too.

Who cares? China is replacing the UK government just like how the UK government wanted to replace me. Loyalty is a two-way street. If the state/society/etc isn't loyal to the people then the people aren't going to be loyal to it.
