I think it boils down to the primitive notion, that indians are perceived as ugly whereas filippinos, vietnamese and thais are beautiful. it's not about skin pigmentation, but facial geometry. For a similar reason women flock to subsaharran african men and not tamil men. Reducing it to merely the coloration of the skin is dishonest and obfuscates the real reasons.
