Because companies are buying it for purely speculative purposes. For some companies, it's their whole existence -- they run machines to mine it, they keep buying, hoping it'll continue going up. Countries have bought into it too.
This just means that if it ever drops massively in value, the crash will be even bigger as these companies go insolvent and are forced to sell. It'll be a cataclysmic collapse.
