It's that "nothing ever happens" meme.
Because the truth is that the way the modern news cycles go, something is ALWAYS happening. But when you are constantly bombarded with things you are supposed to fear or be angry about, after a while it doesn't affect you anymore. So everything becomes nothing.
Then you start to see the patterns they use to manipulate the public with. There are waves and crests because so much of what they want you to care about just doesn't matter to most people, so they constantly need new things to be outraged about.
