It caused the right to rally around him again after he lost 2020, and was rightly seen as a rigged trial, kicking him when he was down. Not only did they fail to throw him in prison, they only gave him the most meager of slaps on the wrists, leading to considerable disappointment among the base.
Prosecuting politicians is hard unless they’re caught red handed, and for good reason.
Trump chose not to attempt prosecution of Hilary as an olive branch to the old guard of the government he was then elected to lead. The fact the left did not extend the same courtesy to him was not just disrespectful, but made them look like a bunch of ingrates as well.
