Presumably the hope is that every other candidate will drop out, such that everyone who voted for him + some amount of Republicans will get him over the line. The question at that point would be how much cognitive dissonance it inspires in people that "Democrats, the only thing stopping the apocalyptic evil of Rethuglican fascism" are happy to immediately drop that and ally with the latter to prevent Comrade Needful from getting elected
