On the most fundamental level it is about christian zionism. Israel exists because of anglo protestants, not because of jews.
There's also a geopolitical strategy reason for why the us keeps funding israel - the us doesn't want iran to be the dominant power of that region. Americans never want another superpower emerging, they always fund the opposition to it.
