Russian Drones Strike Polish-Owned Factory in Ukraine's Vinnytsia
A Russian drone strike hit a major Polish-owned factory in the central Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia overnight, injuring several workers and prompting condemnation from Warsaw, which labeled it a deliberate attack.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said the director of the Barlinek Group's wood flooring factory informed him the facility was intentionally targeted. "Russian drones struck the Barlinek Group factory in Vinnytsia. The factory director has just informed me that it was a deliberate attack from three directions," Sikorski stated on social media platform X. "Putin's criminal war is approaching our borders."
Ukrainian authorities reported that a total of eight people were injured in the broader attack on industrial sites in Vinnytsia. Two of the injured from the Barlinek factory suffered severe burns. A spokesperson for the Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed that five drones hit the plant, which produces wooden floorboards and employs around 1,300 people, and that none of the injured were Polish citizens.
The Barlinek Group is a leading global manufacturer of wooden flooring and is owned by one of Poland's wealthiest individuals, Michał Sołowow. The company's CEO, Wojciech Michałowski, confirmed that while there were no fatalities, the material losses were "large."
The factory is a significant local employer and a major exporter, shipping its products to 55 countries. Polish consular officials are on site working with Ukrainian emergency services. The overnight attack involved a total of 28 drones targeting the Vinnytsia region, 18 of which were shot down by air defenses, according to Polish officials.
