In fairness, most PTSD is generated from seeing atrocities and trauma inflicted upon your own side i.e your closest friends and squad mates. That in turn generates a sort of numbness and deep yearning to deal out the same or worse to the opposing side. FNG's became a thing because soldiers who'd survived any length of time in combat and thus lost close friends had no interest or stomach in befriending more people only to see them die, reliving the trauma all over again. War is a fucked up horrible thing and this is why. Death can actually be the preferred outcome to severe mental trauma and/or being crippled for life.
