The Supreme Court has held that police officers do not have a constitutional duty to protect individuals from harm.
DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services (1989): The Court held that the state had no duty to protect a child from his abusive father, even though the state was aware of the abuse.
Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005): The Court ruled that police had no constitutional duty to enforce a restraining order, even when the woman repeatedly requested their help after her estranged husband violated it.
Cops have no duty to protect you.
That is simply not their job.
