lol marketing is peddling to the masses. they were only "controlled" by the culture of the people. that's not the decision of capitalism as much as it is the markets or culture of the people, I would argue capitalism has historically benefitted a lot more from remaining divided sexually, but I'm no expert.
also yea yr more likely to get yr head bashed in with a rainbow flag in like, Arkansas than you are in most of like, China for example. Gays were relatively accepted, or at least not prosecuted during the Soviet Union. again, certainly not out of place for the time period. and after it ended it got much worse as russia became the capitalist theocracy it is today.
