It's not just sleep, it's sleep quality too. I know plenty of people that have habits like listening to things to fall asleep to. So even if they're going to bed at a certain time, they're awake and in a state of being semi awake for hours so when they finally then get up they're not actually fully rested.
I decided to try this myself, queue up some podcasts, then an audiobook. Even though I might be in bed for like 7-8 hours, it still feels like I got 4-5 hours sleep. Doing that sort of thing almost every day have to age you faster.
I think a much better way, if you love consooming content is just do it during times you're doing something else like chores or having to travel somewhere. It can also be beneficial if you're on a treadmill or going for a run.
But constant stimulation is a bad thing. Some of my best ideas and work have been from periods where I was in total silence and was able to focus and think deeply. People seem to be trading staving off "boredom" in exchange for absolutely wrecking their attention span. It's niggerbrained and you're fucking up you're life and not realising it.
The powers that be would rather you be distracted. To never actually stop and think about just how shit things are getting, to escape. The single biggest thing you can do is ditch the smartphone. Get a dumb one. Have a bedtime and cut down stimulation before it, certainly not during it. That's to allow your brain to think deeply on things that are actually important to you (personal challenges) before going to sleep. Your brain will work on some of it while you're asleep and you'll wake up fresh to tackle it.
