Fair enough, but we can't just immediately assume that someone crazy enough to shoot up a place wouldn't just pivot to another form of violence if they couldn't get a gun. They could commit a bombing instead, or arson, or any other form of violence. People don't want to give up their rights to test a theory. On a whiteboard these problems might have obvious solutions, but humanity is fucked up and unpredictable.
